Sailing School

Welcome Sailors!  We are very happy to have your child in the Nagawicka Lake Yacht Club’s sailing program.  We hope your child enjoys all the great things that sailing has to offer.

The NLYC is proud to follow the Inland Lakes Yachting Association (ILYA) sailing school program.  The model of this program that our instructors will teach develops critical ‘Life Skills’ of its sailors:

Self Sufficiency -    capable of taking care of themselves and their equipment
Pride -             respect for self, team and club
Sportsmanship -    gracious attitude in victory and defeat
Emotional Stability -    directing their emotions appropriately
Good Judgement -     making good decisions
Problem Solving -    overcoming obstacles
Responsibility -    responsible for their equipment
Accountability -    responsible for their actions

Sailing is a sport that demands discipline and teaches a child to become self-reliant and confident in his/her ability to handle continuously varying situations in a responsible manner.  They learn how to care for and handle a boat, adjust the boat and their technique to changing water and wind conditions and derive an inner satisfaction as they improve their sailing ability through successful experiences.

We are excited about our team of instructors.  They are as follows:

Eric Good
Connor Trepton
Sarah Acker
Ryan Grosch
Chris Colombe

If ever you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact either our Sailing School Director or a member of the NLYC Sailing School Board (see attached).  We are here to help you maximize and help your child enjoy his/her sailing experience.

We look forward to a great summer of sailing!
